When the Whistle Blows
The Turk Greenough Story
Some knew Turk Greenough as a champion bronc rider, one of the very few to ride the notorious Midnight and then Five Minutes to Midnight. Turk and both horses would eventually be inducted into the National Cowboy Hall of Fame and Western Heritage Center. Others seem only to remember Turk’s short marriage to Sally Rand, the well known fan dancer. Western movie fans may still recall his movie stuntman work with the likes of Roy Rogers, Gene Autry and John Wayne, but Turk’s story encompasses more than any one of these events and in When the Whistle Blows they all come together, interwoven to make whole cloth of his extraordinary life.
When the Whistle Blows “…is an exciting read and a valuable resource about a fading time and culture.” — Michael Amundsen, creator of Take Willy With Ya: The Riding Greenoughs and the Golden Age of Rodeo video.
“Finally the world can read about Turk Greenough and his illustrious life and rodeo career. The author left nothing out. The wins and the losses are accounted for, as well as the highlights and “low” lights in this world-class cowboy’s colorful life. The rest of the famous ‘Riding Greenough Family’ is also included in this book. A great read about one of rodeo’s most notable cowboys and his family.” — Gail Woerner, Austin, Texas, author of Belly Full of Bedsprings: The History of Bronc Riding.
